Airedale Terrier

The Airedale Terrier is a working type dog that has been used to hunt Otter. Among its other duties are a police dog. This English originating dog is the biggest of all Terriers. The Airedale is a dog that will work. For the month of September 2010 this dog is the king.

Airedale Terrier

The Airedale Terrier or Airedale for short is a lively dog. The Airedale is a known working and hunting dog. Measuring from 24-26 inches at the shoulder. The Airedale weighs anywhere for 55-65 pounds. The Airedale originated in England as a breed between the Welsh Terrier and Otter Hound. It was used to hunt Otter in the River Aire that runs through Airedale. Thus the name Airedale Terrier. The Airedale has a wirey coat and a jaw that produces a scissor like bite. These attributes allow the dog to excel in hunting and working. The coat is preferred to be a black saddle or a coat that looks like a horse saddle in black. Along with this the ears, legs and head should be tan. The other coloration is a black saddle mixed with gray and white. The tenacious roots of this dog may make it alot to handle. It may annoy other dogs and also chase animals. This could be due to a small herding instinct within the breed. As with all Terriers the Airedale Terrier is a proven guard. Golden Retriever

The Golden Retriever is eager to please the sportsman in all of us. It is able to fulfill our outdoor and exercise needs. Originally bred to retrieve game. It is an avid swimmer and loves the water. Measuring in at about 24 inches at the withers and weighing in a range of 60 - 80 lbs. This is a dog that is known to be intelligent. On another side it can be aggressive and people shy however it does easily adjust. With the right training and walking techniques it is an easy dog to handle. The Golden Retriever is a dog that should be socialized with children and animals at a young age. Aggression with children and animals could be a problem with this dog. Owning a Golden Retriever is a chore for any dog owner. This dog can grow to a large size and become heavily aggressive. Knowing that you love dogs will give you the reason to own this dog. For a medium sized dog the Golden Retriever allows plenty of outdoor fun.

Soft - Coated Wheaten Terrier

The Soft - Coated Wheaten Terrier is an Irish dog that was originally bred for herding and hunting. Livestock and vermin were the two areas of emphasis. For the month of July 2010 this ball of energy is the top dog.

The Soft - Coated Wheaten Terrier has four varieties. Traditional Irish, Heavy Irish, English and American. They are a breed that is less likely to give you allergies. Their coat sheds very little hair. They were originally bred for hunting vermin, herding livestock, guarding and watching the family and livestock. Today this breed is basically a playful companion and a great friend. The Wheaten has been cross bred with Standard Poodles to form a Woodle. It has also been cross bred with Beagles to form a Wheagle. Wheatens are great with cats as long as they have been well socialized with them as puppies. They are great with other dogs as well as children. They make a great watch dog however may be less of a guard dog due to their even temperament. The Wheaten Terrier is a dog that needs to be handled with care and treated properly or aggression and fear could occur in its behavior. Adequate exercise is needed but too much exercise in the heat should be avoided. Puppies have a red, brown, mahogany or white coat. The muzzle or ears of the puppies may be black or dark brown. As they grow older the coat will then change from dark to white and then wheaten in color. Thus the name the Wheaten ( wheat colored ) Terrier. The coat as an adult may have darker colored hair in it. If the dog has a skin disease as an adult the resulting hair growth will remain the same as the puppy coat until growing into the wheaten color. The size is from 18 -20 inches at the withers and about 45 pounds. This is a versatile dog that should get along with every possible part of your life ( children, strangers, friends, cats, dogs ).

Miniature Pinscher

The Miniature Pinscher is a small and majestic dog with lots of energy. Obedient and kindness are exhibited by this dog. Its smooth coat and pointed ears may make you fall in love with it. For the Month of June 2010 the Miniature Pinscher is the top dog.

Miniature Pinscher

The Miniature Pinscher is a German breed of dog. It is thought to be the most dominant of all the toy breed dogs. Originally bred to hunt vermin such as rat, today it is less of a working dog. The breed can still be used to work for hunting. Red, stag red, black or chocolate with tan or rust markings as well blue and fawn are all different colors of its coat. Owning a Miniature Pinscher should be a pleasant experience due to its adaptability with children, dogs, cats and strangers or new people that it has been introduced to. Weighing in at about 8-13 lbs and standing about one foot at the withers is the normal size of the dog. The temperament of the dog is to protect and alert its owner of any new occurrences. For this ability it has developed a watch dog state of mind. However, the main energetic happy go lucky attitude it carries will allow you to love the dog. As a small dog and the biggest of the little dogs you should find yourself with a dog that is easy to care for and not too stubborn. For a first time dog owner this would be a great choice. Miniature Pinschers are great at escaping enclosures. They are known in the dog world as the "Houdini" dog. Regular exercise is necessary to maintain a healthy relationship with the Miniature Pinscher. Without regular exercise this type of dog may become aggressive. Barking excessively is one of the main side effects of not exercising your Miniature Pinscher. Aggression towards other dogs may also be one of the results of not exercising this dog enough. A small or large setting is sufficient as long as the dog is given adequate exercise.

German Shepherd

The German Shepherd is a German dog that is a known guardian. The German Shepherd should exhibit a guarding ability and a calm demeanor to its owner and friends. Known mainly for its K-9 abilities with police work it still has behavior that is strict to its intelligence. Being one of the smartest dogs that you can find, you should not have a problem training the dog for obedience and tricks. The German Shepherd can weigh anywhere from 80-110 lbs. They measure about 21-23 inches at the withers and come in pound for pound as an athletic dog. Adequate exercise and games should be a part of the German Shepherds life. Their coat is of medium length and can be colored in tan/white, red/white, solid black, solid white and a rare blue. Bone diseases such as hip dysplasia and arthritis are their main health faults. The behavior faults that a German Shepherd may have include dog aggression and people aggression. Though it is no longer the top dog attack dog. It still needs to be trained and kept in good hands with good treatment to get the full potential out of the dog. It can be a first time dog owners dog for the right person with the right requirements. These requirements include adequate running room, lots of love, patience and the owner being in charge of the dog at all times. To own this dog you must be the top dog and your environment must be controlled and that of a dog lovers environment.
